Economic Development

3 Core Principles

Maintain The Talent Base

While La's film tax incentives program has had considerable success, the development of a sustainable statewide cultural economy depends on the establishment of indigenous, locally owned businesses and entrepreneurial organizations. The lack of adequate business skills accounts for many cultural artists to steer away from mixing art and commerce.

Build the Technical Workforce

Develop industry driven sectorial training programs focused on coaching and guidance. Increase investment in programs aimed at the film industries. With the increase in production in the film industry the state would need a trained workforce ready to meet the needs of the many production companies coming to the state; regardless of their budgets. These efforts should include the cooperation of the local entertainment unions like IATSE and the Screen Actors Guild in addition to the local colleges.

Value The Artist

The issue of race and social inclusion needs to be openly acknowledged and addressed in the cultural economy. Things have been better in the AA representation in the arts and cultural arena but as a participant in and at various events, it is our responsibility to represent, acknowledge, and tell our stories.
