FILM FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE

The 2nd Annual Galveston Island Film Festival & Conference is a 4-day event (October 4 – 7, 2019) that will include panel discussions, screenings of feature and short films, and networking opportunities with creative minds from all walks of life.

The four-day festival will screen films in three categories: short, feature and documentary, at Moody Gardens 3D Theatre providing filmmakers and attendees a first-class, state-of-the-art experience to watch fresh, innovative and creative contents from filmmakers around the world.

At Riondo’s Ristorante on The Strand, informative seminars and networking gatherings will focus on diversity inthe entertainment industry, ways to better integrate technology, how the entertainment business landscape has changed to provide more opportunities and give attendees an opportunity to relax, collaborate and educate.

The celebrity ambassador for the film festival is actor/director/producer Antonio Fargas, internationally known for his work in television and film.

The conference also will showcase the production value of the island and surrounding areas and connect like-minded entertainment professionals.

Everyone will experience the diverse culture of beautiful Galveston Island, the embodiment of the American vision of unity.

"A Place at the Table"

Baton Rouge, La -Healthy BR, Independent Media Network, LSU Campus Life, and Slow Food Baton Rouge have collaborated to screen the nationally acclaimed documentary “A Place at the Table”. The screening of “A Place at the Table" will be part of a week-long celebration of community events to spotlight food access issues and promote healthy, affordable, and sustainable food during Healthy BR Food Week October 18-24. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with community organizers, educators and policy makers. As our special guest, Barbie Izquierdo will also be in Baton Rouge to participate on the panel. Mrs. Izquierdo was cast in the documentary and has participated in numerous national forums to speak on the issue of hunger and food accessibility in the United States.

A Place at the Table is a 2012 film produced by Lori Silverbush and Kristi Jacobson, with appearances by Jeff Bridges, Raj Patel, and chef Tom Colicchio. The film, concerning hunger in the United States, was released theatrically in the United States on March 1, 2013.
